James is originally from England, moving to Aotearoa in 2017 with his wife Joy and are expecting their first baby in January 2022.  They currently live in Mount Eden but are moving to Glen Eden shortly.

James worked for the NHS in provider services, working in weight management, smokefree, sexual health, and NHS Health Checks.  This included time spent working with the families of serving British army personnel on Colchester Garrison and with the Gypsy and Traveller community.  James has a passion for helping communities achieve social justice and equity.  

After completing his master’s in public health, James moved to London, where he worked as a senior public health commissioner for children’s health, including health visitors (UK version of Plunkett) and school nursing.

In Aotearoa, James led the alcohol licensing and health promotion teams for Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS), New Zealand’s largest public health unit.

James is currently halfway through his doctorate in public health and is a member of Health Coalition’s expert alcohol.
